Causes and Prevention of Dementia

Dementia is caused by damage or loss of nerve cells or their connections in the brain. Depending on affected area, dementia can affect people differently and cause different symptoms. This damage the ability of brain cells to communicate with each other. 
There's no way to prevent dementia, but there are few stuffs that might help. More research is needed, but it might be beneficial to do the following: keep your mind active, Be physically and socially active, quit smoking, get enough vitamins, treat health conditions, maintain a healthy diet and get quality sleep. The common causes of dementia include:

  • Vascular disorders
  • Traumatic brain injuries caused by car accidents
  • Infections of the central nervous system
  • Long-time alcohol or drug use
